Update

Hey this is Kayla. I just wanted to let ya'll know about whats been going on.

Danny Boy is doing well, still hungry, though not as fat as he used to be. He escaped from the rope halter while I was giving him wormer the other day. And ran up the driveway and started grazing. Amber, Mrs. Cloutier's daughter, and I caught him and then gave him wormer.

Dante is still throwing food in the air and moving his bucket up and down on the fence. He is limping and has some heat in his leg.

Please pray for Dante's leg that it would be healed and that Danny's health would stay protected.
Thanks!

Bad day and snowing- Kelsey

Today was a very rough day for me. I went to the field and got Dante he was fine then. I put him in the barn and he goes crazy he wouldn't stop for me. I was very scared. I try a couple of times to stop him and he wouldn't listen to me. Mrs. Cloutier helped me when I gave up. She said do not let Satan get a foot hold. God is going to help He is in control. We prayed..

I got him in his training halter that helped some but he was still not listening very well. Kayla helped me out we tied him up and went to get a new lead rope. I stood in the back very scared I was not happy at all. But God helped me though it. Mrs. Cloutier and I worked on the ground today it wasn't fun but I learned a lot today.

We put him in the ring and make him stand the whole time and back him up he stared to resist my command so we backed him all the way back and forth. He tired to bite us he was getting mad but he didnt get away with it.

He kept getting in my space and being rude but I didn't let him do it. I walked him around and told him he was a good boy but I was so ready to be done with him . I put him out but he tried to bite me. I got very mad. I told him I was the boss. I put him and and said good job listening today. I fed him and he went crazy. I think the cold weather is starting to make him more hungry...But he still need to show me respect. But I need to trust God and not lean on my own understanding.

A bad and cold day - Kayla

Today was freezing! it was the first snow day. Dante gave Kesley troube (she'll tell you about that later) and then when I went to get Danny, he ran from me. No matter what I did he ran away. Thats huge. He usually walks right up to me. but today he turned tail and ran in the opposite direction! I was freezing. I prayed that God would help me, I was cold, my legs were tired and I was not in the mood to run after my horse.

Mrs. Cloutier saw me struggling out in the field and came to help me. She tried to catch him and he ran away from her. She said he thinks he's running now, I'll show him what running is. She made him run all over the field. It sounded really cool. But I was so tired I didn't really care. I was mad. I sat on the fence and prayed for a while. Mrs. Cloutier chased Danny up and down the field. He finally got the message and stood for her to catch him. This took about 45 minutes. I didn't give him any treats I fed him a bucket of feed, picked his feet and turned him loose.

It wasn't very fun, but it was worth it because I was able to grow, and also able to teach my horse that I can be more stubborn than he can. I will post pictures soon. Bye!

FREEZING

It was freezing today. Yesterday was the first "blanket day' for Danny. Kelsey and I couldnt ride today, Mrs. Cloutier had a surgery for her shoulder and back pains. She is in a lot of pain. :(
All we did was feed the horses today. The only way I could keep warm was by sticking my freezing hands in Danny's blanket! Spanky (another horse at the farm) gave me a little trouble. Because all of the grass has lost all its nutrience, the horses want Dante and Danny's food. I'm probably going to start to pull them out...

Anyway smother Mrs. Cloutier in prayer, be on the look out for photos (we are starting the media section of our blog) and check back next Wednesday! Bye!

To cold

Hey there:)
Today was to cold to ride. I miss riding. But we went to vist Mrs Cloutier she just had an surgery please pray for her:) We are starting to make videos and put some more pictures up on the blog this winter:)
I will tell more next week:)

hello!

Today Buddy and I did really well. (Buddy is Danny's 2nd name) we had a great time trotting around the ring. The ring was so soft today it was as soft as dust it was wonderful! Any way I prayed to God as I was walking around the ring. I prayed for renewed confidence in me, steadfast confidence in Hunter (my brother is taking lessons now. You'll probably hear from him later) and a nice relaxing ride.

I told God the reason I bought Danny was so that I could have nice relaxing rides on him and I prayed that today He would give that "perfect ride" to me. And God was faithful He gave me that perfect ride! I had so much fun. I hadn't trotted on Danny that much since well, since I can remember! Thank you God for giving me a great horse, a wonderful teacher and a crazy mother! Without all of them I wouldn't be where I am today!

A beautiful fall day

Hey. This is Kayla again. Just to let you guys know, Kelsey and I ride every Wednesday now.

Danny came right up to me and I groomed and brushed him down. Kelsey already had Dante tacked up and was walking him around the ring.
"The ring is so hard! It is hurting my feet...and his!" she said.

I thought she was over-exzagerating so I finished tacking Danny up and I walked to the areana. It was so hard Danny wasn't even leaving a print. So Terry (a guy who works there) said that he would rake the ring real quick. While he was raking Kelsey and I worked on ground tieing with Mrs. Cloutier.

When he was done Kelsey walked into the areana and saddled up. I got my helmet than kept working on ground tying with Danny. After her lesson was done I went into the areana and walked him around. He followed me I should say. Though he does it all the time I always felt proud that I could "lead him around with out me touching him. Well the pride stopped when I realized that he wasn't following me. He had stopped at the last corner we had passed.

I started to motion with my hands and call to him to come. He didn't budge. I tried a few more times then I thought about how much time we have and ran over to him. I grabbed the reins and said "walk-on." He still didn't budge. I made my angry noise and said "Get!" He didn't budge. I don't I started to walk him around in a circle and back him up. But he stil wouldn't move forward!

Mrs. Cloutier came over and slapped his but as I pulled, he finally moved foward. I was kinda worried. I backed him every once in a while then got on.

He stood still as I mounted him. I was a nervous wreck and I knew that attitude would set me up for failure so I prayed and then asked Mrs. Cloutier to walk next to me. She did, I love her so much she is so kind to me! She walked me around and then went to the middle I felt God speaking to me saying that he would send gaurdian angel to protect me and that He was a caring loving God. Though I was still not sure of what Danny would do.

Mrs. Cloutier told me to trot so I did when I was done I slowed him down and walked him around. Mrs. Cloutier's daughters ran down a slide towards the fence yelling and screaming. Danny vaulted but I didn't let it faze me. I pulled back on the riens and said "WOAH!!!!" In my angry voice. He stopped and stood still. After that the lesson went on pretty much as they always do. I got off said good boy and turned him to the field.

I PROMISE TO POST PICTURES SOON!!!!

But let me tell you about yesterday (cause Kels is feeding today) Marybeth, one of the borders sold her horse tucker so when i came yesterday there was a new horse. A paint named Feather. it is so pretty! I rode done in the back of the truck with Danny's and Dante's food and water buckets. (it was just down the driveway) anyway the horses came right up and ate while a groomed them. I tell you the flies were awefull! There were like 50 billion on each horse! Ok so im exzagerating but not by that much! I will post pics as soon as i can. Well ttfn ta ta for now!

sorry i'm late

9/12/o8

Hey today Kelsey and I went to the barn. Aunt Terry was there and had already gotten the buckets of food ready. kelsey and i called for our horses and then went and got the grooming supplies. When we came back out we could see every horse but our own so we walked down the corner of the driveway where the lower gate is (we usually feed them there) and there they were. Danny on his side of the gate Dante on the other. They were waiting for us! Kelsey and I laughed, fed, picked, and groomed them. (when i refer to the usual I mean we have picked their hooves, brushed them down, talked to them, put on fly spray etc. you get the usual!)

the sunny ride

Hi this is Kelsey's next post:

Today was my 2nd lesson with Mrs Cloutier. In the beginning Dante was was a little hyper on the ground. I need to learn to be patient with him and take my time! But Mrs. Cloutier helped me out there:) Well now time to ride, I had to walk him around the ring 6 times. One of the times I went around, he heard a scary noise and flipped out then stepped on my foot! I couldn't speak because of how bad it hurt...so then we worked more until he listen to me. So then it was time to get on. I got on him and walked him around and got used to him. Then we did some time trotting it was fun he was great he listen so well...I was so proud of him...Mrs. Cloutier was surprised how well he listened... so then we did some barrels.... trotting around them and walking of course... but I was so happy how well he did:) i am so happy God has given me a horse like Dante!

A great ride!

Hi, hi! This is Kayla with the next update...

Today I rode. I sat down at the picnic table and got started with my paper journal while Kelsey got started with her lesson. 15 minutes in, I got up and got Danny Boy. He didn't come to me so I did the Parrelli method to make him come to me. After 10 times he came and I gave him a bite of apple. Then I led him to the barn and got him tacked up. When I went to get the saddle pad I heard a commotion and I stepped out. Danny had pulled the trash can down! I laughed because he was scared. Then went and comforted him. When I went back to the tack room when I came out Danny had flipped the lid of another trash can.

After tacking him up I stuck the bit in his mouth. I have to do it at an angle because he is missing some teeth and if I don't do it right it gets caught on his gums. YUCK! Anyway...I put him in the ring and walked him 6 times around than got on him and walked. Mrs. Cloutier noticed that Danny was in a good mood today so she insisted I trot him or since he is a Tennessee Walker run-walk him. But it is much easier to say trot. I was nervous, the last time I trotted him he took of. After a good push in the right direction and some persuading, Mrs. Cloutier said that she would only take me one length...I went around the ring twice...and I loved every minute of it!

After that I did a few figure eights around the barrels and then got off. It was a great day thank you Lord for giving me a horse. Please help me to bless and cherish him the way you bless and cherish me! Thank you for keeping me safe. Thank you for letting me trust in you and please help me to step out side of my comfort zone!

Intro Kelsey

Hello my name is kelsey.
I have been riding horses for 4 years. I have an appendix quarter horse named Dante. I have had Dante for 2 years. He is 8 years old, 16 hands and is a chesnut color.

Now to tell about myself; I ride at Oatlandstables, I'm an English rider, I do horse shows, I do jumping with my horse and with other horses.

Why I am doing this blog is because I'm learning horse science and how to keep up a web journal. I wanted to tell you how I got into horses. When I was 7 years old I started to ride my aunt's horses in Tennessee. I started riding lesson when I was 12 and at 13, I began horse showing. I also do 4-H, horses, choir, I am on my church's worship team and I hang with family and friends all the time. I am excited to start this blog. Keep up with us!

Welcome to our blog!

Hello! This blog is an account of our horse journeys. We, Kayla and Kelsey, are excited to keep this up for fun and for school. Let us introduce ourselves...

My name is Kayla and I am 13 years old. I have a Tennessee Walking horse named Danny Boy. He is 16.3 hand high with a dark chesnut color and is 13. I love horses and so does my mom. Its been her dream to have a horse ever since she was little and now she gets to live her dream through me! My mom and I are best friends so we enjoy doing horsemanship together. Right now I have been taking lessons with one of my friends Mrs. Jennifer. I have been riding for 3 and and a half years now. I'm not just wrapped around horses though. I am involved in my church drama group, a 4H Club and choir. I am family oriented and love to hang out with my parents and 5 siblings. My favorite subject in school this year is going to be science. My mom is writing a horse science curriculum and Kelsey and I are doing it together. One of our science projects is blogging. We are going to journal all our adventures everyday. Or atleast update every Wednesday. I'm looking forward to this school year and I hope you do too!
